Resistance is where the “juice” of life is held. Its the envelope edge or wall that people run up against within themselves. The amount of energy it takes to stop: an emotion, a memory, a movement, a word- can be huge.
Moving through resistance leads to an increase in energy, ease of movement, and emotional scope. Also, when you have a variety of memories there is a greater range and broader foundation from which to navigate the world.
Psychologists have identified different ways in which we manifest resistance these include:
- Introjection: swallow everything around you; don’t chew. (An obvious result of this is the feeling of nausea and a feeling of not knowing yourself)
- Projection: See in others what is uncomfortable to see in yourself. (If it irritates you when you see it in others, it is usually something that is going on within you)
- Retroflection: Do unto yourself what others did or didn’t do unto you.(Monkey see, monkey do. We have a tendency to repeat behaviours or actions that were done to us.)
- Deflection: Do unto someone what you want to do unto someone else.(If you are angry at your boss, you transfer that anger onto someone you feel safe with)
- Confluence: Go with the flow.(You go with the flow around you, despite what your inner voice is saying. Following the norm, or opinions of others, not your own intrinsic self.)
These patterns can lead to feelings of physical unease, pain, discomfort with the company of others, self harm, misdirected actions, dissatisfaction and a sense of powerlessness. When the “juice” is released patterns are changed then you can have a yummy, empowered and satisfying life.
