Take the road less travelled and move from FROZEN to HOPE
Frozen. Is the new Disney film. It is animated, and a wonderful example of what happens in real life. There is trauma in the young girls’ lives. One sister locks down her emotions whilst the other keeps moving and expressing herself. There is superstition and fear around the power of the deep freeze. The shards of ice shatter and drive the pain deeper and deeper. Until nothing is felt but numbing cold and death.
I work with people who have experienced deep trauma. When I put my hands on them, some feel as cold as a glacier. Fear held in the body over years becomes harder, colder and more brittle. As they discover hope, excitement and wake up to their emotions, the glacier starts to melt. Sometimes they feel the depth of the pain and sadness that has been in lock down. They can also feel love, warmth and joy. All of the emotions become free.
How does this help? It can reverse pain and suffering and allow people to engage in their lives in the present moment. A woman who was sexually abused as a child was enraged at all men, she moved to develop relationships with men that are fun, close and nurturing. A man who was emotionally neglected can crawl out from under a rock of depression to dance with women again.
How? Hope. Hope melts the ice and gives permission for feelings to be felt. To move, awaken and release.
As a long time raft guide and emotional guide, while ice skating can be fun, the real adventure is in the deep calm pools and wild white capped rapids. It is ok to melt and take the road less travelled.
